Dra. Alicia Kabanchik dos durante 12 meses, eran mayores de 80 años al ingreso, todos ellos habían tenido diagnóstico de depresión y tratados con (ISRS) (citalopram, 20-40 mg/día o 50-100 mg/día de sertralina). Los pacientes fueron divididos en función de su respuesta terapéutica en dos grupos: Grupo A (de respuesta) y el Grupo B (no respondedores). Después de 4, 6 y 12 meses de tratamiento, se observó una reducción de los eventos cardiovasculares (-75 %, -83 % y -60 %, respectivamente). Estos resultados confirman la existencia de una correlación entre el nivel de la afectividad y las funciones cardíacas (36). Este estudio fue desarrollado para investigar la eficacia del tratamiento con antidepresivos para el trastorno depresivo mayor (TDM) en ancianos con insuficiencia cardíaca.
