D Buljubasich // Efectos de fumar tabaco sobre la salud las enfermedades cardiovasculares, tanto en uso crónico como en consumo agudo. - Tener en cuenta que no existe una cantidad segura de consumo para los daños del cigarrillo sobre la salud, hasta 1 cigarrillo por día puede ser perjudicial. - Se recomienda fuertemente la vacunación antineumocóccica en fumadores de más de 1 paquete / año. - Es muy importante interrumpir el consumo para facilitar la concepción y no consumir ni un cigarrillo a partir de esta. - Tenemos que lograr que nuestros pacientes dejen de fumar 6 a 8 semanas previas a una cirugía programada ya que mejorará su evolución. - Es altamente recomendable solicitar una espirometría de rutina a fumadores a partir de los 40 años, para detección de EPOC. - Dejar de fumar es la mejor, si no la única, manera de prevenir las enfermedades vinculadas con el cigarrillo y cuanto antes se abandone el consumo menores serán los daños.
