Es importante resaltar, que actualmente hay varias líneas de investigación con evidencia incipiente de tratamientos, desde aproximaciones farmacológicas con acción sobre los receptores NMDA corticales y del tegmento ventral como algunos poco convencionales como la estimulación magnética transcraneana. Sin embargo, estos tratamientos se encuentran en fases muy precoces de desarrollo y aún no están disponibles para el uso en la clínica diaria (9). Desafortunadamente las intervenciones psicosociales y farmacológicas muestran efectividad limitada para la mejoría los síntomas negativos en la esquizofrenia, siendo un gran desafío identificar y tratar los estados prodrómicos, los cuales podrían cambiar el curso de esta enfermedad devastadora. Conclusiones Los síntomas negativos empeoran la calidad de vida de las personas que padecen esquizofrenia, generan mayor incapacidad funcional que los síntomas positivos, interfieren en la reinserción social y laboral, es decir implican peor pronóstico. La presencia de síntomas negativos es sumamente importante a la hora de determinar el pronóstico, las posibilidades de rehabilitación, reinserción social y laboral del sujeto enfermo. Siendo su tratamiento uno de los mayores desafíos que debe enfrentar la psiquiatría actual, debido a que no existen tratamientos de eficacia comprobada. Lamentablemente hay pocos trabajos clínicos focalizados en síntomas negativos primarios, constituyendo una importante limitación los síntomas negativos secundarios y los síntomas depresivos. Una mejor comprensión de la patogenia de los síntomas negativos primarios podría ayudar a identificar y desarrollar intervenciones específicas. Por lo que se requieren futuras investigaciones que hagan foco en el tratamiento y patogenia de los síntomas negativos primarios. Conflicto de intereses: ninguno. Referencias bibliográficas • 1.
